Title: Web Browser Click Monitoring
Post by: xman on August 09, 2003, 05:40:15 am
I would love to have an webbrowser click monitor added, so if you click on an file in IE or Opera or Netscape it is downloaded via WIN32 GET.

I agree, it has to be just like Fresh Download, but I don't like that program, because it uses to much memory.

Win32Get has to open automaticly when you want to download a file! Please fix this Gena01!!!

I have been thinking of doing a rewrite of Win32Get, there are a number of things that I want to fix in there. Just need to finish up a few other things first. Stay tuned.

P.S. Also I wasn't even sure if anybody was still using it, considering how many comments I have been getting on this program.

there are more people that use it  than you knoe of. But i think they delete it after using it once because it doesnt integrate with IE and Netscape and Opera and Mozilla , E.G. starting an download when you click an link to it.

Hi,

I am also still using it, quite often I would say.
Apart from browser integration I would like to see the possibility
to open the "new download" by double clicking on the task bar icon .

Can you also place the "new download" window in the middle of the
screen or even remember the last position.

Thanks,

Max

i hope web browser click monitoring comes soon

Maby the page at getright.com on how to integrate their plugin with Opera helps to build your own plugin.

Yes, it has to be like Getright, maybe with a skin option to. But Getright and Download accelerator are shareware. I hate it when simple utilities are shareware.

Uh...skins.  Let me ask what is more important:

A slim, flexible and functional tool or a good looking, skinable tool which is lacking of functions?
Do you want to look at it and show it around or do you want to use it productively?

I mean, what is Win32Get really usefull for?
Downloading regular exe/zip/rar/etc. files linked from a webpage? No, you can use the browser
built in functions or a big downloadmanager.
Only if your browser is not running and you get an email with a link to a file.
Then you want to have a one-click-open-ctrl-v-hit-return tool like Win32Get.
Other scenario, there s a nice swf/mov file embedded in a webpage, how do u download it?
You don t have a chance with a regular browser, you need
Win32Get where u just paste the link and leech the file.  :)

How can things like skins help to improve the piece of software for this simple needs?

No offence,

Max

PS: an always on top feature would be cool: u see a nice link on a webpage, you doulbleclick
on the taskbar icon, the new download window opens, u select&ctrl+v the link (new download
window stays on top) and u paste the content and hit return.
This may take 2 seconds - thats what I call productively working  :D

Ok, forget about the skin option, what I really want is a simple download manager/client, just like the standard IE FTP client, only with the option to pause/resume downloads.

And off course if it is possible, speed up the download.
GetRight and Speedbit's DA claim they can do that, but I have my doubts.

Not sure i'll do that though. Still need to find the time and fix up the code.

In a perfect world: Just make a few mimetype-associations, so all SWF and MOV files encountered in any webpage are routed to Win32Get.

Of course, there are different ways to make mimetypes for IE, Netscape, Opera, etc...

Would it be possible to have the win32get.ini not to be created in the Windows-folder but instead in the same folder as the program it self? Otherwise it is a nice program! I too would like to see some sort of browser integration, but I can see if it is hard to do, because of all the different browsers.

Cheers,
H
