Title: Two features that would make win32pad the best programming editor on earth
Post by: vmalloc on April 07, 2007, 03:26:52 pm
And I mean what the subject says. I have tried dozens of notepad replacements, that don't even come close to the speed and stability of win32pad.

There are two things, though, that would be great to have from a programmers perspective:

Tab mode - Multiple files within one window. Helps when you have to load a ton of them.
Syntax Highlighting engine - way to do basic syntax highlighting. You kindof already do this with url highlighting, if you made a selectable interface to that, I think it would work great.

Just thought I would throw that out, incase you were looking for any ideas.

If syntax highlighting is ever implemented, I hope there will also be an option allowing the user to disable that feature ...

I do agree that a tabbed interface would be great though.

I've another idea, improving the search/replace feature: add a "does not include" field.
E.g.:
I want to look for ea in this text, but not with a "," at the end, or I want to look for "/", but not within an URL.
Think about this idea =)

Vim for Windows supports syntax highlighting (an alternative as long as win32pad doesn't). I personally think that adding too many features makes a program bigger and slower. The advantage of Win32pad is that it's small and fast.
