Gena01 Title: Win32Pad 1.5.7 Post by: on December 07, 2004, 09:27:43 pm HI
First of al - thanks.Great programm I use since...I even don`t remember.Maybe version 0.01 A only little problem I met is I can`t select less than 4 characters. If I like to copy one or two letters only I have to use Shift+ > e.t.c. I don`t know when this has begun, but is time to be stopped If you fix this I promise never to use ANY other text view/editor. Thanks again.Keep up.... Title: Win32Pad 1.5.7 Post by: Gena01 on December 07, 2004, 10:36:45 pm
Can you please give me step by step instructions on how to reproduce this? Can you also specify Windows version you are using as well as the riched20.dll version. Thank you. Gena01 Title: Win32Pad 1.5.7 Post by: on December 08, 2004, 01:46:16 am Please, can I make two requests? If its not difficult, these are the only two things that keeps me switching permanently from Emeditor.
1) An option to select column-wise. Like in Word and other editors, hold down the alt key and select downwards to select and then cut or copy the column. 2) Possibility to highlight all instances of a text that is searched. When I press ctrl+F and search for "the", all instances of the word "the" should be highlighted and the cursor is to be placed on the first found instance. Thanks Title: Win32Pad 1.5.7 Post by: on December 13, 2004, 10:41:53 pm Hi,
I downloaded w32pad 1.57 and tested it. I found that there's a bug in this version. I can cut and paste data in ASCII and Trad. Chinese from microsoft wordpad to win32pad; but I *only* cut and past *ASCII data* from win32pad to wordpad. This problem has been existed since win32pad 1.55. Thanks, Title: Win32Pad 1.5.7 Post by: davidshq on December 16, 2004, 03:28:16 pm Thanks so much for Win32Pad, I never used Notepad anymore and I use Win32Pad in a number of situations, from viewing plain text files to programming. I have a recommendation for the next version. I love the way you added the New Instance option, but would it be possible to do it in a tabbed feature? Like Mozilla Firefox's tabbed browsing?
Another thought...Could you add a button that would allow us to set a favorite dir. That way when we go to save or open a file we could easily set or goto that favorite dir. I really like this feature in Pegasus Mail. David. Title: Win32Pad 1.5.7 Post by: henrik on December 16, 2004, 04:00:43 pm
You can always use the program DialogMate http://www.weird173.net/apps/dlgmate.html It gives you the ability to add favourite folders to mostly any Open/Save dialogs. Title: Win32Pad 1.5.7 Post by: on December 16, 2004, 06:07:23 pm
I have also been unable to copy and paste text after going from v1.52 to 1.57. Cut and paste do work. Copy and paste work in and across all other apps, just not on text within Win32pad. Returning to v1.52 restores the copy and paste utility. (W98SE) -Still a great program! Title: Win32Pad 1.5.7 Post by: on December 16, 2004, 06:31:24 pm
Doh!!! Installing the newer version of riched20.dll (5.30.23.1200)resolved this. Previously file version 5.0.140.1 was installed. Title: Win32Pad 1.5.7 Post by: dmhsds on December 26, 2004, 03:32:52 am Hi, Gena01, Thanks so much for Win32Pad, I never used Notepad anymore and I use Win32Pad for a portable text editor !
but I didn't want to produce this file of Win32Pad.ini , And I wanted to deleted the recentfiles through a function key after I have used the program and didn't want to make the Recent detailed Files list keep down. Would the program change the default value as 'not' that the setting of 'RecentFiles' of 'option' of 'tool' or others ,so it produce no longer the Win32Pad.ini . Still a great program! Thanks again! Title: Win32Pad 1.5.7 Post by: therube on December 26, 2004, 10:39:46 am Recent Files can be turned off in the options.
Tools | Options | Recent Files As far as not using an .ini (or registry), that is probably not a bad idea. Suppose it would either have to default to not storing settings, then prompt on exit, or you would have to know that you had to click a setting to change it to make it store settings. Title: Win32Pad 1.5.7 Post by: on December 27, 2004, 11:33:19 pm hi, i think that your program is very well, but many of my friends only speak spanish, so can i translate the program in spanish??. I'm asking you for permission.
Please reply to jairmoreno @ gmail.com Title: Win32Pad 1.5.7 Post by: RidgeMcGhee on December 30, 2004, 12:49:51 am Thanks for maintaining this editor.
It seems to work fine on Win2000 and WinXP but I have problems on WinNT4 (SP6). Most notably, the line numbers don't display properly. Is there a new dll I should download to fix this? Thanks! Title: Win32Pad 1.5.7 Post by: schnook9 on January 12, 2005, 01:10:06 pm Howdy,
I have noticed on occasion that certain text, when opened in Win32Pad, will show as unprintable chars. This often happens when I attempt to open html source code from my browser, in the editor, and I can't figure out what it causing it. Any ideas? Thanks! Title: Win32Pad 1.5.7 Post by: on January 17, 2005, 10:00:38 am There is a big bug since the 1.5 release.
If I select more than 2 lines of Chinese texts, the paste then does NOT work. This problem does occur to the English texts, so I think it should be a double-byte character related bug. Please check it out. Thanks! PS: I use Windows XP. Title: Win32Pad 1.5.7 Post by: Gena01 on January 17, 2005, 10:47:35 am
Sure. I am still thinking of how to organize/setup translations. Gena01 Title: Win32Pad 1.5.7 Post by: Gena01 on January 17, 2005, 10:48:13 am
There's an update in Win32Pad Download section for RichEdit. Try that. Gena01 Title: Win32Pad 1.5.7 Post by: Gena01 on January 17, 2005, 10:49:04 am
This is probably related to text being from a different language than English. I am planning on adding Unicode support which should resolve this. Gena01 Title: Win32Pad 1.5.7 Post by: on January 18, 2005, 08:14:36 am Thanks for your concern. I think the unicode support will make lots of problems away. I am looking forward to the next release.
Title: Win32Pad 1.5.7 Post by: on January 18, 2005, 05:39:47 pm 1) If I use my favoirite monospaced font "Bitstream Vera Sans Mono" read file is displayed using this font but newly typed text is displayed using some other font (MS Sans Serif?)
2) Toolbars and line numbers area is displayed using black color. I use non-standard color scheme as you may see in the attached picture. For sure it worked well in previous versions. I don't know exactly which one. 1.3.2 from my archive works almos perfect (only the line-numbers area is black). In the oldest-posiible-to-download 1.5.0 both bugs are present. PS: What is the reason for blocking .png images on this forum? Title: Win32Pad 1.5.7 Post by: highti on February 01, 2005, 04:56:21 pm Hi, I made a german translation from your program und put it on my homepage.
http://www.navig8.to/highti If you got something against it, i will remove it from my homepage. Title: Win32Pad 1.5.7 Post by: on February 08, 2005, 01:26:02 am is it possible to replace the notepad of win2k with win32pad...
if i view the source of a explorer (ie) window i want it in win32pad... possible.. any idea Title: Win32Pad 1.5.7 Post by: ChoGGi on February 09, 2005, 06:12:46 am the way i like best is to rename win32pad.exe to notepad.exe and replace it (keep a backup of notepad for unicode? files)
remember to also replace the one in dllcache (or disable system file protection) ps. you can also put this in a reg file and import it so you can right click on a file and open it with win32pad or notepad (change the xpnotepad path first)
btw Gena01 great notepad replacement Title: Win32Pad 1.5.7 Post by: on February 15, 2005, 07:11:21 am
yes, I also have the same problem >.< Sometimes i cann't cut and past , and i didn't know why . I just re-installed windows 2000(Trad. Chinese) with sp4 and installed win32pad 1.5.7. Sould I also install the newest version of riched20.dll ? By the way, thanks for your software ^^ Title: Win32Pad 1.5.7 Post by: on February 15, 2005, 12:37:25 pm Request:
Could you make an option to clean the MRU list ? Sometimes I whan to clear the list because of privacy. (some filenames can be quite revealing :0 )! I know I can turn the list off in the options, but I want the list, only sometimes to clean it.... now I have to do it by hand by editing the .ini file. thanks Title: Win32Pad 1.5.7 Post by: therube on February 16, 2005, 12:29:45 am Tools | Options | General -> Recent Files (uncheck).
Now, it may not actually remove (all) the entries from the win32pad.ini file, but, they will no longer show. Title: Win32Pad 1.5.7 Post by: K3NNY on February 18, 2005, 11:11:28 pm 1). The first bug is with the Indent option. Lets say that I have this text...
...if I select the word "example" and then click on "Edit --> Indent" the text changes to this...
...but if I select the word "example" and then hit the TAB button the text changes to this...
...because the TAB function replaces any selected text with its empty space. [UPDATE] (Feb. 19 2005,01:51) 1.1). But if in the selection the last character of the line is selected and you hit the TAB button, indent works. In the sample, if you select the last "t" (from the "text" word) alone or with any previous characters the tabbed space will be added in the beggining without replacing any text. [/UPDATE] 2). The second bug is not in your Win32Pad, but in this forum. You can only use 30 characters in "Control Panel --> Personal Info --> Your MSN Messenger identity", and my MSN identity mail has 31. PS: Im translating your Win32Pad to Spanish. For now, its only win32pad.exe+readme.txt. Maybe later I'll try to translate also the help and the install. I won't translate the history.txt file. Title: Win32Pad 1.5.7 Post by: on February 19, 2005, 05:54:31 pm Found a funny bug:
1) Using Terminal Font 2) There might be other chars that does the same, but as you can see in the Image this is caused by Char(&hB9). But great app anyway, except for this little bug, it's been there some time now. Title: Win32Pad 1.5.7 Post by: K3NNY on February 20, 2005, 10:52:20 pm
Actually, we can't. Tripod.com doesn't allow to hotlink images. Instead, try uploading the image to www.imageshack.us (it's free, no registration needed and it gives you the exact code to post it in forums.) Title: Win32Pad 1.5.7 Post by: therube on February 22, 2005, 12:56:39 am
Home would normally take you to the first column of the line. Smart home takes you to the first non-whitespace character of the line. I don't care for it, but so be it. You have to hit HOME HOME to get to the first column of the line (if there are spaces there). Title: Win32Pad 1.5.7 Post by: on February 22, 2005, 10:11:08 am Found a funny bug:
1) Using Terminal Font 2) There might be other chars that does the same, but as you can see in the Image this is caused by Char(&hB9). Hope it could be fixed soon, either on myside or in the code Thanks Title: Win32Pad 1.5.7 Post by: K3NNY on February 23, 2005, 03:49:05 pm
Thanx for the explanation! Title: Win32Pad 1.5.7 Post by: K3NNY on February 23, 2005, 11:12:51 pm I've mailed you a Spanish copy of the program Gena, I hope you publish it!
Title: Win32Pad 1.5.7 Post by: on February 28, 2005, 04:14:05 pm If you put all the UI messages and texts into one file that would be easily translatable and then added the possibility to select the language of user's choice in the program. We as users could help you with translations, as long as all the texts would be in one file. Easy as pie. It would be nice and it would also help to spread Win32pad.
Title: Win32Pad 1.5.7 Post by: K3NNY on February 28, 2005, 04:32:39 pm
That would be lovelly, but it ain't easy to do, I guess. In which language are you making Win32Pad Gena?
You can use Resource Hacker (google it) or any other resource editors to change almost any of the texts. Thats the way, aha aha, i like it... ehm... COF... thats the way i did it. Title: Win32Pad 1.5.7 Post by: on March 23, 2005, 08:52:25 am I think Gena is bored...
Title: Win32Pad 1.5.7 Post by: Gena01 on March 23, 2005, 03:16:33 pm I am not bored, just rather busy lately. Got too many things happening. Been also researching some things and some new ideas.
Another little project of mine is open source Yahoo plugin for Miranda IM. Gena01 Title: Win32Pad 1.5.7 Post by: on March 24, 2005, 03:52:38 pm Never looked at Miranda, is it nice? Maybe I'll take a look but I quit all IM programs since we lost the good old ICQ many years ago.
Title: Win32Pad 1.5.7 Post by: on March 27, 2005, 04:49:36 am i've seen gena01 nickname in miranda devs team, so it was you:)
Well, it seems now only me have had problems with fonts in win32pad (when win32pad use one font for showing but other font when typing). fixedsys font in my case, as i recall, i'm using Arial for a long time now, because of that ..mm bug:) and now, other little problem: As you know you can add "Edit With Win32pad" line in every file context menu during install setup. And it works, and i like it. But with MSI files this line get higher priority, it actually becomes default action. So if you double click MSI files you get hanged win32pad instance instead of running some installation or else. It works fine with other extensions. Title: Win32Pad 1.5.7 Post by: Gena01 on April 14, 2005, 10:16:04 am
You probably are missing a "default" setting for MSI Files. To fix it: 1. Open up Windows Explorer (WIN + E will also do the trick). 2. Select Tools menu and then Folder Options. 3. Select FileTypes tab. 4. Scroll down the list of extensions until you see MSI 5. Select/Click on it. 6. It should say that it opens with windows installer. 7. Press "Advanced" button. 8. You should see a list of Actions like "Open, Repair, uninstall". Open should be bold if it's not bold select Open and press "Set as Default" button. It should turn bold. 9. Press ok to apply the change. From now on it should open up fine. Thank you, Gena01 Title: Win32Pad 1.5.7 Post by: on April 16, 2005, 03:09:22 am oops:) Havent thought about this simple solution. Thanks:) But why this priority changes after win32pad install?
Title: Win32Pad 1.5.7 Post by: Gena01 on April 16, 2005, 10:51:16 am
It didn't change. There was no default, and since I setup to open all files it kinda overrides it if there's no default. This way you can edit with Win32Pad most of the filetypes. Gena01 Title: Win32Pad 1.5.7 Post by: on April 16, 2005, 01:49:48 pm
that's exactly what i came here to ask for Unicode support would be great! BTW, why is it easier to open huge text files with word than to open them with Win32Pad? my PC is really fast with 1 GB of ram and yet it got stuck when trying to open a huge file with Win32Pad while ms word could open it after being stuck only for a while Title: Win32Pad 1.5.7 Post by: davidshq on May 02, 2005, 03:47:04 pm Would it be possible to add a feature that would allow you to choose the default file format you want Win32Pad to save in? For example, I use it a lot for ASP.NET and it would be nice if it defaulted when opening/saving to that format rather than TXT.
David. Title: Win32Pad 1.5.7 Post by: Stikman on May 04, 2005, 07:01:21 am Hiya
Just registered, first i'd like to say thanks for making Win32Pad, it's one of those little programs you don't really think about, but which you use all the time, and i know it's made my life a lot easier frmo time to time, even if i don't immediately realise it. Only mine complaint i have : A few years ago, when i first started using it, i could rightclick on the title bar and select the Always-on-top option, this vanished at some point during an update and has moved to a normal menu instead. I feel it was much more handy to have it on the control menu, as you could get to it from right-clicking the instance's button on the task bar Thanks Title: Win32Pad 1.5.7 Post by: therube on May 10, 2005, 10:57:26 am Method changed.
