Feature suggestion:  Bookmark

A very simple bookmark feature (sure isn't everything very simple!).

A simple button that would add a bookmark(s) to particular lines in a file.  Could be based upon the file history & stored in win32pad.ini along with the filename.
Code Sample

MRU_FILE1=C:\Documents and Settings\RUBEN\Desktop\MP3.txt 36 99 120
MRU_FILE2=C:\Documents and Settings\RUBEN\Desktop\New Text Document-26.txt 88

The "bookmarks" would be line#(s) 36 99 120 in MRU1, & line 88 in MRU2.

So that after marking the bookmark, perhaps, Ctrl+Sh+B (or an icon on the menu bar), alternatively clicking Ctrl+B would jump you to the particular bookmarked lines, 36, 99, 120, 36, 99, ...

When the MRU dies, so does the bookmark.

Or it could even be tied in with Ctrl+G (a feature I have never used).

Feature suggestion, regression:  Home vs Home Home.

IMO, Home should that you there, Home.

At one point, there was one person who commented upon wanting Home to do what it does now.  IMO that is wrong.  I would much rather have the positions reversed.  Home takes you to column 0 (or 1 depending upon how you want to look at it), & Home Home takes you to the first non-blank character.

Perhaps make it menu selectable, if nothing else.

Perhaps I am wrong on this & every likes the way it currently is?

thanx for the Silent fix! :P:)
if you do us a favour, make a command for changing Word Case e.g. libya > Libya ......etc

also if hangs (Crashes) on opening subtitle files like .srt and .sub files
those files also hangs on Metapad opening, but they are cool with Notepad!
any idea how to fix this BUG?!
TIA

Hey!

This little programme is so cool! Made alot of webpages with it ('cause in many instances I had no advanced editor available).

One feature request: is there some way win32pad could remember which file type I opened last? Kinda annoying to have to reselect *.php or something over and over and over again after opening a new instance. Otherwise I am happy with win32pad. :)

Keep it up, mate!

This is a very good alternative to notepad.  I use it often for various text editing tasks.

I do have a suggestion.

I keep an old DOS text editor, PC-Write, around for 1 task.  Its ease in recording and playing back keystrokes.

I often have to perform the same series of steps on files.  Sometimes to prepare them for importing into a DB, sometimes for formatting, sometimes just to make them easier to read.

I don't like any of the available 3rd party macro utilities because they want to do too much.

I want a single keystroke (or combo) like Control-1 to start recording and to stop it.  Then a single keystroke or combo to execute it.  Nothing fancy or complicated.

I've looked around for a long time for this feature in a simple Windows text editor without success.

Like I said.  Just a suggestion.  (Or a wish list item...)

Thanks,
Zack

"hangs (Crashes) on opening subtitle files like .srt and .sub files"

What are .srt/.sub files?

Subtitle?
And if so, what is a subtitle file?
About how big are these?
Text or binary?

Any examples of them on the web you can point to?

Are the files locked by some other process when you are attempting to open them?

I tend to answer the questions I got answers for quicker vs the ones I need to do research for.

It's nothing personal, and I didn't mean to offend anybody.

Can you e-mail me the files that you are having problems with? The e-mail address is in the About window of Win32Pad.

Thank you,

Hello!

 A fantastic program… Congratulations!
I only have a small problem that with the previous version (1.5.8) it didn't happen me and it is that when save a document with: save as,  he doesn't make it in text format (* .txt) he makes it in an unknown file that I am forced to use: Open with, to open it with and to select Win32Pad manually.
Thank you and greetings.

Confirmed. This is a regression. A fix is in the works. (I missed one line change when fixing "Save As" handling)

Thank you,

Very grateful for this excellent programme.

Although I am very new to it, so far I see nothing that requires change.

Imho, some great little programmes have in the past been harmed by the addition of superfluous bells and whistles such that the simplicity that originally attracted users was whittled away over time.

There is always scope, and - with the constant will to work - therefore often the will to improve and extend; but the genius of simplicity forever knows its limits.

Best wishes to Gena01 and all concerned with this great little programme.
